"In order to get to know and understand the work of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis and the depths of his personality better, we try to trace all the paths and even the single steps he has taken. We highly value every reflection of his personality in the environment of that time, because we still continue to wonder where such strange and incomprehensible, majestic and mysterious images or visions came from. [...] Almost by heart we remember the most important paintings, which have been on display for eighty years and have been becoming a chrestomathy Lithuanian heritage, but next to them there is a large (almost the same sized as the collection of his paintings in the museum) layer of the artist's original ideas, thoughts, doubts, and experiments, marked or coded, and sometimes vividly embodied in many drawings, colored and monochrome sketches or ink drawings, graphic sheets. It is a rich and diverse material, which only the most persistent visitors patiently study in the exposition dedicated to the composer and artist. But even here, only a small part of this legacy fits in, and it is constantly changing due to the safe storage requirements. Therefore, the M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art believes that the time has come to present this most intimate part of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis' legacy to the public so that every fan or researcher of his works can study it himself. After all, sometimes even the slightest doubts or attempts of the creator can reveal the idea of the painting and give the key to understanding his complex work, ” writes Osvaldas Daugelis.
