Journal „Vessel as a Journal“

The guest editor of the ninth issue of the magazine is Defne Ayas, a long-time senior guest curator at the Performa Biennial in New York. Her co-authors delve into performance art, which she describes as a transformative force in the art world. From her early work at Performa to her work curating the 11th Baltic International Art Triennial Mindaugas in 2012, Ayas sees this medium as a dynamic platform for change, transforming institutions into ever-evolving spaces for artists and audiences.

The magazine explores the relationship between art, reality, and performance – delving deeper into how performance shapes our understanding of politics and how it works. This issue of the magazine seeks to ask how artists, all with waves of destruction, communicate with each other, delving into the essence of artistic thinking and its manifestation on stage under the spotlight.

Currently based in Berlin, Defne Ayas is the curator of PERFORMA in New York and the newly appointed director of the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.
