Barbara Kasten "Postabstraction". Catalogue

Barbara Kasten was born in Chicago in 1936. She studied painting at the University of Arizona and sculptural textile design at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland. Her mentor was Trude Guermonprez, whose teaching methodology was rooted in the Bauhaus tradition. In 1971–1972, having received a Fulbright-Hays grant, Kasten worked alongside sculptor Magdalena Abakanowicz at what was then the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Poznań (now the University of the Arts in Poznań). In 1982, as part of a Polish-American art exchange program, she donated her photograph *Construct PC/4B* (1981) to the Art Museum in Łódź. In 1995, she held a solo exhibition at the Contemporary Art Centre (CAC) in Vilnius. Kasten’s works are held in the collections of numerous museums worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Whitney Museum of American Art, Tate Modern in London, and the Centre Pompidou (National Museum of Modern Art) in Paris.
