The monograph discusses one of the most prominent Lithuanian artists of the first half of the 20th century – Adomas Galdikas. The book focuses on the development of A. Galdikas's creative skills through his career, his relations with other artists, and the influence of Lithuanian folk art as well as his experiences in Western Europe on his work. The main stages of the artist's creative evolution in Lithuania, Germany, France, and the USA are analyzed, their stylistic features and peculiarities of the means of artistic expression are highlighted. The monograph presents the impact of East Asian spontaneous painting traditions in the late period of A. Galdikas's career and his way of creating a unique version of abstract expressionism.

The album is illustrated with archival photographs and over 300 reproductions of works by A. Galdikas, which reflect the three main periods of his work: Lithuanian, European and American.
