Vladas Urbanavičius was among those few artists who contributed to the "explosion" of conceptual modernism at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s. In the 1990s, however, when everybody's focus was on the new media, the sculptor's works became marginalised in the Lithuanian cultural landscape. A decisive breakthrough came at the beginning of the 2000s when the artist found a new relationship with the environment and technologies, thus firmly positioning himself at the epicentre of new developments. To mirror the changing directions and fortunes in V. Urbanavičius' career, this book was conceived by its editor as an open dossier that includes documents, texts, tables, photographs, etc. A summary of national and international events contemporary with the artist's life as well as his memories shows how a personal biography is embedded in history. The editor has also included the most significant interpretations of the artist's oeuvre and interviewed curators, critics, and artists who played key roles in his career.
