The Exibition catalog "...avec privilege du Roy". XVII-XIX c. French Engravings in the Collections of the National M.K.Čiurlionis Art Museum.
The graphics collection of the National M. K. Čiurlionis Art Museum is dominated by the French engraving school. In 1999, an excellent exhibition of French engravings was presented at the M. Žilinskas Art Gallery – a home to the permanent foreign art of old European masters. The exhibition was not very large – in total consisting of 60 works – yet they were created by the best and typical masters of their era, marking the most important stages and features of the development of the art of French engraving. In the exhibition catalog, you will not only get acquainted with famous paintings and portraits of prominent people, but you will also be able to follow how the art of engraving gradually developed, the line relaxed and the white paper sheets started vibrating loud silver tones. The exhibition "With the Privilege of the King" will take you back to the heyday of French copper engraving and etching. In presenting the entire collection of engravings of the museum, the tireless engraving enthusiast Tadas Stelmokas prepared a comprehensive and motivated exhibition catalog.
